Maryland Intellectual Property and Technology Transactions: Forms and Practice Manual - Press Release

Baltimore, MD – January 24, 2008. Attorney William S. Galkin authored a new book entitled Maryland Intellectual Property and Technology Transactions: Forms and Practice Manual. The work, which covers technology transactions of interest in Maryland, along with negotiating tips and representative contracts and clauses for use by technology practitioners, is due to publish in June 2008 and will be available through Data Trace Publishing Company.

Maryland Intellectual Property and Technology Transactions: Forms and Practice Manual discusses both the general principles that should be relevant across all states for most common technology transactions, as well as state-specific elements of law. A comprehensive collection of the forms needed for Maryland attorneys is included on a companion CD-ROM. The work can serve as a desktop reference and will be updated annually to ensure that practitioners have the most current information. Practical applications that are addressed in the book include:

  • Understanding intellectual property ownership and protection
  • Acquiring software licenses and custom developed software
  • Purchasing hardware
  • Negotiating technology service agreements
  • Contracting for Internet-based businesses

Author William S. Galkin is in private practice in Baltimore, Maryland and has more than 20 years’ experience advising companies at all stages of development on entering into, structuring and managing a wide variety of relationships in the areas of information technology, e-commerce and privacy. He has served as an adjunct professor of computer law at the University of Maryland School of Law, an adjunct professor of business law at the Merrick School of Business at the University of Baltimore, Special Intellectual Property Counsel for the Office of the Maryland Attorney General, and Chairperson of the “Crimes in Cyberspace Panel” for the 19th National Information Systems Security Conference (sponsored by the National Security Agency).
