PICA Home Study 2013:
Elements of Excellence

In collaboration with PICA, each year Data Trace Publishing Company releases an annual risk management home study workbook tailored exclusively for the podiatric physician. This home study course is part of a comprehensive risk management program offered through PICA and upon successful completion, enables PICA policyholders to receive a 10% discount on their annual premium.* In addition, podiatric physicians can take advantage of the opportunity to earn up to 6 continuing education contact hours when they complete the extended quiz.

PICA Home Study 2013: Elements of Excellence, available in print and online formats, and highlights risk management issues that are frequently alleged against PICA policyholders. In addition to addressing common allegations, such as failure to obtain proper informed consent and failure to appropriately document patient charts, the case studies demonstrate the unfortunate consequences of failure to refer patients who have conditions beyond the scope of your podiatry practice.  Two of the case studies in Home Study 2013 resulted in patient death, and in all four cases studies, early intervention could have mitigated the outcomes. Understanding these issues and applying appropriate risk management principles will help improve the quality of podiatric care you provide to your patients.
